Water Pollution

Water is an important environmental component of life. It covers over 70% of the earth's surface. It can be used as drinking water, for bathing, washing, etc. The living thing on earth can’t be separated from the need for water. Water is the main requirement for the process of life on earth. So there is no life if on earth there is no water. However, water can be disastrous if not available in the right conditions, both the quality and quantity.

Environmental impact of volcanic eruptions

On locations where tectonic plates diverge or converge, volcanoes can be found. A volcano consists of a deep magma chamber where magma accumulates, pipes that lead to surface vents, and the vents through which lava is emitted during a volcanic eruption. Volcanoes are often known to have a mountain-like shape (see picture).

Volcanoes that have not erupted for some time are dormant, and volcanoes that have not erupted even in the distant past are called extinct. Volcanic activity and volcanic eruption is usually triggered by alterations of tectonic plates, resulting in landslides or earthquakes.

Structure and CO 2 budget of Merapi volcano during inter-eruptive periods

Soil temperature and gas (CO 2 concentration and flux) have been investigated at Merapi volcano (Indonesia) during two inter-eruptive periods (2002 and 2007). Precise imaging of the summit crater and the spatial pattern of diffuse degassing along a gas traverse on the southern slope are interpreted in terms of summit structure and major caldera organization. The summit area is characterized by decreasing CO 2concentrations with distance from the 1932 crater rim, down to atmospheric levels at the base of the terminal cone.

DAMPAK DEBU MERAPI
